  • Big Blob

    Introduction

    In this scene there is a large viscous blob in the middle of the stage.

    Description

    This structure is both a warm up and an exercise used to. complicate an open scene. Regardless of what is going on the scene the players must not ignore the big blob of goo in the middle of the stage. For example, if a player crosses the stage to answer the door she will have to push her way through the blob. In no way does she acknowledge the blob in the narrative. However, the player waiting at the door may complain about how long it took them to be let in.

    While the warm up Big Blob can be used with any level of improviser it is recommended that complicating an open scene would first require a strong grasp of the open scene.

    Why complicate a narrative so? It is just that, a complication, the theory on complications is that they may allow players to manage uncomplicated open scenes with greater ease.

    Gimmicks

    • Change the elements of the blob part way. E.g., thick to thin.
    • Endow the blob with an emotional impact on the player.
